How do I book an appointment?

Please check the “Contact Me” section of my website for further details.

Do I need to prepare my dog for their groom?

It is so important to walk your dog before your appointment. This releases energy and gives your dog the chance to go to the toilet beforehand. A good walk will make the grooming time much calmer, easier and more enjoyable for your dog.

You can feed your dog a small amount of food before their groom, but it must be at least two hours before. Please do not overfeed and ensure your dog has the opportunity to go to the toilet before arrival.

Is parking available?

I work in a residential area.  If there is space on the drive, please feel free to park there.  If not, there is always space in the road.  Please be mindful of neighbouring properties and do not block their driveways.

Will you crate my dog?

I do not crate dogs in the salon.  I have rings on the wall to loop a lead through so the dog is restrained for safety reasons but can wander around, sit down or lie down on the bed provided. All my grooms are on a one-to-one basis so there is no need for me to use a crate.  If, for whatever reason, there happens to be more than one dog in the salon at any time, both dogs can see each other but will not be in direct contact.

If your dog is aggressive with other dogs, please see question below

My dog is aggressive with other dogs. Will you still groom?

Please make me aware at the time of booking if your dog has any specific requirements.  All my grooms are on a one-to-one basis.  If your dog does not like to share their space with another dog, that is ok.  Please let me know so that I can ensure exclusivity in the salon from arrival to collection.

Do you muzzle dogs?

I only use muzzles in exceptional circumstances and would ask that any dogs that require this are muzzled by their owner prior to drop-off.

When should I start my puppy grooms?

Your puppy can come in to see me for an enjoyable puppy session to get used to the sights and smells of the salon and to settle in with me. This can consist of just a bath or a bath and tidy-up to prepare them for a full groom at a later date.

Please allow a minimum of 10 days after final vaccinations before considering this.

My dog has fleas – will you still groom?

If you suspect your dog has fleas, please DO NOT bring them to the salon under any circumstances.  You must treat them at home and, only after successful treatment, will grooming be possible.

If fleas are discovered during a grooming appointment, a surcharge of £30 will be payable to cover deep cleaning, flea bomb etc. and I will be forced to cancel all remaining appointments for that day.  Your dog may return to the salon to complete their groom no sooner than 4 days after a successful flea treatment and proof of such treatment. So please check your dog’s coat thoroughly before attending.

How often should I have my dog groomed?

This depends entirely on the breed, their condition and lifestyle.  Some breeds require grooming every 6-8 weeks, others only a few times a year.  Frequent grooming leaves a coat in better condition with less likelihood of matting and skin problems.  Infrequent grooms will often mean prolonged and more expensive grooming sessions and the possibility that the dog may need shaving if the coat is matted or has been poorly maintained between grooming sessions.

How long does a full groom take?

This question is so hard to answer as it depends on so much! If your dog’s coat is in the best condition and the behaviour is good, a full groom may take around 2 hours. Usually, pet dogs understandably have knots and tangles to remove first so a groom will take longer. I will give a collection time when you drop your dog off to me for their appointment.

What if my dog is in season?

If you already have an appointment, please call me so I can ensure there are no male dogs likely to be present. If you have not yet booked, it would be best to wait until the season has ended.

Will you give my dog food and water?

Water is always available for your dog in the salon.  I offer treats to dogs during their grooming session unless specifically asked not to. Alternatively, if your dog is on a strict diet or suffers allergies, you may wish to bring safe treats for your dog which I can use during grooming. I do not feed dogs any meals unless specifically asked to do so for health/dietary reasons.
